Angry Mane Publicly Ignores Klopp’s Post-Match Handshake
Liverpool forward, Sadio Mane, publicly refused to give his manager, Jurgen Klopp, a post-match handshake after The Red’s 4-2 triumph over Manchester United on Thursday, 13 May at Old Trafford.
The 29-year-old Senegalese international was left out of Liverpool’s starting XI – he was replaced by Diogo Jota, who played a vital role in their victory.
However, Mane was brought on as a second-half substitute in the 74th minute of the game – something that appears to have left him very angry – as the forward is not used to the bench.
After the final whistle, Klopp who was in a celebratory mood, shook hands with his players and as he approached Mane, the Senegal forward snubbed him, shook his head and walked away murmuring.
Klopp defended Mane’s behaviour during the post-match interview. When asked about the incident, the German tactician said he understands why the 29-year-old behaved that way.
He said: ”No, no problem. Yesterday I made a late decision in training to decide for Diogo. The boys are used to me explaining things usually but there was actually no time for that and that’s all. It’s all fine.”
Despite Klopp’s explanation, Liverpool’s fans were left disappointed by Mane’s behaviour towards his manager and called for him to apologize.
